The Introverts' Ball!
So, I was at a fundraising party and an introvert friend was wishing for just one nice, quiet song to dance to and the idea popped into my head: Let's throw an Introverts' Ball!

So, what would it look like?

Obviously, music should remain at a conversational level. I think tables of four is ideal (definitely no more than six!) and a smattering of tables for two would be good. That's as far as I got, so what do you all think?

We DO like to socialize, what would make it PERFECT for introverts?

I think the environment should contain something(s) to socialize about, so we don't have to work as hard to initiate conversations or resort to small talk. Maybe some conversation-starting foods or artwork on display, and there are some activities scattered around the room, like a craft station or a game in which people can enter and leave freely. Nothing forced that everybody has to do even if they don't want to, but optional tasks and distractions that give people something to do and talk about and invites participation in a less intimidating way than just walking up to someone or a group of people completely cold.

I like it! I can see my brain already starting to spin up ideas!

Yes, this would be perfect. I would just add a designated "quiet spot" to that list: a room somewhere for when people want to go read their books/dive into their smartphones for a bit. Everyone understands it's an "alone time" zone so that everyone in there can relax and recharge.

Also, open bar. Social lubricant helps.

Oh, yes! I'm planning this as a UUFD fundraiser and we have a PERFECT spot...our little library!

Open bar not so much at a fundraiser, but we've got it so we can let people buy alcohol now, which is exciting!

Yes - a theme would be good. I also like the idea of a craft station.

Personally, I'd like at least one person I know well and am comfortable with to be at an event like this. I don't know about everyone else or if that is really feasible, but what I dislike most about large events and parties is having to go by myself and being alone while trying to navigate what to do other than hover by the food and then find an excuse to leave. Then again, I'm shy on top of being introverted, so it can be kind of hard for me to break the ice initially. I liked tabular_rasa's activity tables idea for that reason.

Yeah, I think there's not much we can do about that one! If we sold tickets only in pairs or something, people would be insulted at some point, I imagine. Probably best to let people make that call themselves!
I like the activity tables, too!

I want to say, jokingly, many nooks to hide in ;-)

I was a receptionist for two and a half years - not the best job for an introvert - but it did help me master the art of small talk and greeting people.

:) Actually, I think simply putting a chair in any random out of the way spot is totally doable.

I like downtempo, "chill" music for socializing--there's a station on Sirius XM that is good for this!
